Aldo Leopold made conservation a way of life... using land to do well for its inhabitants - a kind of partnership with the land where people benefit the land and vice versa.  People depend on the land and in modern society the land, plants, animals, soils, and water depend on the people.  The land should be loved and respected.

The Land Ethic guided design of the Leopold Legacy Center in meeting the highest standards of the U.S. Green Building Council and as a place to learn about Leopold's ideas.

Using land wisely and energy more efficiently we create a better relationships to other people and the Earth.  The Leopold Center is headquarters for the Aldo Leopold Foundation.  It also is a visitor center for the Aldo Leopold Shack and Farm with exhibits and signs displaying Aldo Leopold's legacy and the green building techniques used in the facility.  Staff provide guided tours of the Shack and the Leopold Center.

The Leopold Center meets all of its energy needs on site through the center's roof-mounted solar.

The Aldo Leopold Legacy Center is open the last full week of April to the last full week of October - Monday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm.  It is closed Memorial Day and Labor Day, and the 4th of July.  Group visits are available by appointment November thru April.

Directions to the Leopold Center: It is located 15 minutes northeast of Baraboo.  From Baraboo take USH 33 (8th street or Ringling Boulevard) east.  Turn left CH T after the Log Cabin Restaurant.  Go 5.6 miles (straight at the stop sign intersection with CH U.  Cross the bridge over the interstate and take the next right, at Rustic Road #49.  Go 2.5 miles to the Center.
