Cameo Rose offers overnight guests miles of scenic and private hiking trails on 120 acres meandering through the hills, woodlands and past rock formations.
Cross Country Skiing – Cameo Rose has miles of private trails for over-nite guests to cross-country ski.
Snowshoeing – Our overnight guests can snowshoe at the Came Rose on our miles of scenic trails. We have a few miles of private trails ideal for snowshoeing, and we offer complimentary snowshoes.
Badger State Trail (1 mile east of the inn) – Trail extends 41 miles from Madison to the Illinois state line and to the Jane Adams Trail in Illinois. The trail is blacktopped from just north of Cameo Rose near Purcell Road to the Capitol City Trail near Madison.
Bailey’s Run Vineyard & Winery – N8523 Klitzke Rd. – 608-496-1966 One of our favorite spots for a glass of wine and entertainment. Outdoor porch and spacious indoor bar in a lovely barn-like venue, 5 minutes from downtown New Glarus.
Capital City State Trail (8 miles north / 12 minutes from the inn). Capital City Trail runs east of Verona along the southern edge of Madison for about 9.5 miles.
Cheese Country Trail (28SE / 40 minutes) Monroe WI Cheese Country Bike Trail meanders 47 miles to Mineral Point.
Glacial Drumlin Trail – 52-mile Glacial Drumlin bike trail runs east from Cottage Grove to Waukesha.
Ice Age Trail (1 mile west of Cameo Rose) – The 1000-mile trail runs from St Croix Falls to Madison to Janesville to Whitewater to and Door County and tells the story of the Ice Age along a scenic footpath.
Military Ridge State Trail (6N / 10 minutes) – 41-mile trail follows an old 1855 military trail from Fitchburg to Dodgeville.
Sugar River State Trail – (13SE / 15 minutes) near NewGlarus, this 23-mile trail goes to Monticello, Albany andBrodhead, WI. It is a National Scenic and Recreational Trail.
Birding- Cameo Rose guests can hike the trails and watch the bird feeders and nests.
Canoeing- 1 mile west of Cameo Rose launch your canoe on the Sugar River. Rent canoes at Sugar River Sports, 7008 Little Lakes Rd.Belleville, WI – (608) 424-6045.
Tyrol Basin Ski and Snowboard Area (22NW / 30 minutes) – Mount Horeb – Downhill skiing, ski lodge, snow boarding. (20E) Mt Horeb.
Cascade Mountain ski hill (45N / 60 minutes) near Portage, WI.
Devils Head Ski Hills – (45N / 60 minutes) Merrimac – Located in the Baraboo Bluffs – A preferred ski area of Midwestern skiers and snowboarders. The Vertical Rise is 500 feet. There are 30 gentle, long, wide and steep runs. The Longest Run is 1 1/2 miles.
